“My God is a Righteous Judge”

“My God is a Righteous Judge”

Text – Psalm 7

In the last year I have mourned the vacuum of integrity in both our churches and society. Spiritual blindness seems to have enveloped the pew and pulpit as pragmatism seems to be the doctrine of our day.

My heart was encouraged this morning when I read David’s prayer in Psalm 7. The lies of an enemy were assaulting David’s character and integrity before King Saul. David found himself unable to defend his character and he cried out to God to be His judge and vindicate him. He longed to have his “day in court”, but found God was longsuffering and he had to trust the Lord to be His defense in His time.

David came to rest in the assurance that God is a Righteous Judge and a “defense” [shield] for His people.  God is just and saves “the upright in heart” and “is angry with the wicked every day” (Ps. 7:10-11).

David realized the sin of the wicked and the traps they set for the righteous will eventually be the instruments of their own destruction (Ps. 7:14-16).

No believer takes joy in seeing sinners suffer the consequences of their sins, but we do give thanks when God is glorified and His righteousness and justice are seen (Ps. 7:17).

Are you facing someone who is impugning your character with questions, innuendos or accusations? Pray with David, “Judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity” (Ps. 7:8).

May you have a blessed day as you lean on the Lord (Proverbs 3:5-6),
