Topic: The Stewardship of Liberty and the Responsibility to Vote

Dear Friend,

Although the topic is political, the purpose of this post is to exhort you to exercise your right and responsibility of voting your convictions next Tuesday, November 6, 2012 [early voting has already begun and will continue through this Saturday, November 3 at several public libraries in the Tampa Bay area].

This election may be the most significant one in the last century, if not our nation’s history.  The United States stands at the crossroads of deciding between two philosophies: one that identifies with Judeo-Christian values and is fundamentally based on the Word of God; the other, a blend of socialism, atheism and humanistic amoralism that promotes big government at the sacrifice of individual liberty. In today’s blog, I will address only one of many concerns that should guide your vote in this election.

Nothing encapsulates the embryonic overreach of big government more than the 2010 bill thrust on the American people known as “ObamaCare”. As a pastor, I am regularly at the bedside of patients in hospitals and have witnessed the growing encroachment of “ObamaCare” on the medical profession and its affect on patient care. The age of patients is factoring into medical decisions in a way I have not witnessed in 33 years of ministry [age “70” seems to have become the magic number where care is rationed in a more deliberate fashion than I have known before].

It is my personal observation that the medical profession is readily complying [have you noticed how the nurse in your doctor’s office is busy entering data into a computer system that will eventually give government oversight into your medical condition and care?].  At the same time, our citizenry marches down the “ObamaCare” road like lambs led to slaughter…abdicating any right of choice for medical care.

Is anything more intrusive than the management of health, life and death? Are we to entrust our lives to panels of bureaucrats rather than our family and personal physicians? Will we fall victim to a faceless, nameless panel of “professionals” who do not share our philosophy of human life and yet are empowered with the authority to determine the quality of life and quantity of medical care that will be rationed to us individually?

I am pasting a link to a YouTube video that cites “chapter and verse” in the ObamaCare Bill that should frighten anyone who still has doubts as to the designs of our president and the proponents of big government.

I close with a sobering reminder:

God is the Sovereign and Author of life. In His hands, not big government or political bureaucrats, “is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind” (Job 12:10).

Your right of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness is strengthened or weakened by how you vote. I urge you to vote for those candidates who replicate biblical morals and values in their private lives and political ideologies.
