We have learned from Proverbs 3 that a spiritually minded man fears the Lord and walks in the way of His Law (Proverbs 1:7). He accepts the chastening of the Lord with humility and the right heart attitude (3:11-12). He values godly wisdom and discernment above temporal wealth and possessions (3:13-15).
Like a Queen ruling her subjects with benevolent grace and kindness, Godly Wisdom bestows upon the hearts of those who fear the Lord, her loving favor and priceless reward (Proverbs 3:16-18).
Proverbs 3:19-20 directs our focus to the Source of Wisdom, the beginning of Creation, the Originator—God our Creator.
Proverbs 3:19-20 – “The LORD [Jehovah; Eternal, Self-Existent; the Great “I AM”] by wisdom hath founded [established; lay] the earth; by understanding [intelligence; reason; insight] hath he established [prepared; direct; fixed] the heavens [celestial bodies; sky]. 20 By his knowledge [cunning; perception] the depths [oceans; subterranean waters] are broken up [divided; break forth; burst asunder], and the clouds drop down the dew.”
It is here, a man’s belief and conviction concerning the existence of God that we of necessity must begin our pursuit of godly wisdom. Only an all-wise, all-knowing, all-powerful God could design the intricate details of creation and set the universe in motion with perfect balance and precision.
The God of the Bible reveals Himself as the Creator, Architect, Sustainer, and Sovereign of creation.
Romans 11:36 – “For of Him [God the Creator], and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.”
Creation is God’s testimony and revelation of His person and existence.
What you say? “Prove it?”
Allow me to answer that challenge with a question: Why does the burden of proof rest on the man who believes Creation itself is proof of the Creator’s person and existence?
I readily confess my belief in God’s existence is a matter of faith and believe that Creation is His handwork. If you are a professing atheist or agnostic, are you willing to make the same admission? Will you not confess it takes extravagant faith to believe the world came into being through some inexplicable cataclysmic event and life began in a primordial soup?
The Scriptures teach the following concerning creation:
Genesis 1:1 – “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
Psalm 19:1 – “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.”
Romans 1:20 – “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:”
Colossians 1:16-17 – “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”
Concerning faith, we read in the Book of Hebrews:
Hebrews 11:1, 3, 6 – “Now faith [assurance; belief; conviction; persuasion] is the substance [confident assurance] of things hoped for, the evidence [proof] of things not seen [beheld; perceived]…3 Through faith we understand [comprehend; perceive with the heart and mind] that the worlds [universe] were framed [prepared; made perfect; fitly joined together] by the [utterance; spoken] word of God, so that things which are seen [beheld; perceived] were not made [wrought; become; come into existence] of things which do appear…6 But without [apart from; in the absence of] faith it is impossible to please [gratify] Him: for he that cometh to [comes nigh to; worships; draws near] God must believe [have faith] that He is, and that He is a rewarder [God rewards those who seek Him] of them that diligently seek [seek after; crave; worship] Him.”
What you believe regarding God’s existence, His person, attributes and self-revelation dictates the manner of man or woman you are.
I challenge you to search out the Scriptures for yourself, remembering your soul and eternity hang in the balance.
Psalm 14:1-3 – “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. 2 The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. 3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
