tragedy of immoralityThe verses preceding today’s proverbs tell a tragic story of a young wife who forsook the counsel of her spiritual guides, turned away from her husband and plied her body in the trade of whorish woman. Solomon knew all too well the bitter consequences when a man turns from God and gives his affections to sinful women (1 Kings 11:1-4).

Like a father who wants only God’s best for his son, Solomon exhorts his son to remember that God honors and blesses men who choose to walk in the way of righteousness.

God rewards faithfulnessProverbs 2:20-21 “That thou mayest walk in the way [manner; journey; path] of good men, and keep [watch; guard; preserve] the paths of the righteous [those who walk in accord with God’s Law]. 21 For the upright [righteous; just] shall dwell [inhabit; continue; remain] in the land, and the perfect [upright; men of integrity; whole] shall remain [dwell; be preserved] in it.”
