Government corruptionSolomon was both a king and man of incomparable wisdom.  Knowing God gave the king a unique gift of godly wisdom and discernment, we should look at our society, government and leadership through the lens of his proverbs.  Proverbs 29:16, 18 are brutally appropriate for America as we stand at the threshold of a New Year.

Proverbs 29:16 – “When the wicked [ungodly] are multiplied [increase; grow great; i.e. “are in authority” – Prov. 29:2], transgression [sin; rebellion] increaseth [multiplied; becomes great]: but the righteous [just; lawful] shall see [behold; look at] their fall [ruin; overthrow].”

For those who are students of history, the past is a validation of this proverb. This brief devotional does not offer me an opportunity to expound upon that historical reality; however, the people of a nation will not prosper when those who practice and are advocates of wanton immorality and wickedness are in authority. Unrestrained wickedness will eventually bring a people and nation to a fall.

America's fallOur own United States is on a path of self-destruction and, apart from a national revival, is doomed.  The leaders of our nation, from the White House to the County Court House, have aggressively pursued a course of moral depravity that is eroding the moral fiber of America.  We are following the path of great nations of the past whose leaders were driven by a lust for power, wealth and moral depravity.  The president, his cabinet, Congress, judges, local and state government leaders are not only supporting, but also promoting the most despicable practices of sexual immorality…Solomon warns, when the wicked are in positions of power and influence a nation will eventually collapse under the weight of its sins.

Take heart Christian, God is longsuffering and just and the righteous will eventually see the wicked brought to justice.

Proverbs 29:18 – “Where there is no vision [dream; revelation], the people [nation] perish [be exposed]: but he that keepeth [guard; watch; regard; observes] the law [commandments; statutes; instruction], happy [Blessed; prosperous] is he.”

homosexualtiyAmerica is ruled by men and women who not only lack a great vision for her future, but are blind to those spiritual and moral qualities that were the moral fiber that moved her from a frontier nation to the wealthiest and most powerful nation the world has ever known.  Allow me to close with a brief lesson from this proverb:  God promises when a nation, family, or man reveres God, keeps His commands and statutes, that nation will be blessed and prosper.   However, be forewarned: when a nation, family or man rejects God’s Law the eventual destiny is ruin.

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord!”  (Psalm 33:12)
