Proverbs 25:25 – “As cold [quiet; cool] waters [springs of water] to a thirsty [faint; weary; exhausted] soul [life; mind; heart; man], so is good [fair; precious; glad; pleasing] news [report; tidings; announcement] from a far [far off; distant] country [land; nation].”
Good news of any kind is a pleasure to hear, especially when it comes from someone you love! I remember well the joy of going to my post office box in college and finding a letter from home, especially when there was, as my Aunt Dena Plyler used to say, “I little piece of money!” inside.
Realizing a word of encouragement cost nothing; it is revealing how reluctant we are to give a word of affirmation to someone who needs to hear his or her life and work matters and has made a difference. Stop and think. Is there someone in your life or past that could use an unprompted word of encouragement and hearing from you would be as beloved as “cold waters to a thirsty soul”?
Proverbs 15:30 – “The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.”
