June 8, 2015 – My one and only response to Friends and Critics

facebookFacebook prompts you with a question, “What’s on your mind?”; however, having come to recognize that “Free Speech” is dead in the “Young Conservative Evangelical” camp intolerant of this biblical fundamental pastor’s perspective, I will keep “What’s on my mind” to myself…at least today!

Admittedly, I have at best a low-level of tolerance for social media and use it historically as a vehicle of communicating a daily devotional and staying in touch with missionaries.  Many who have attacked me in the last days will be disappointed that I do not read or follow “Likes”, “Dislikes” or “Comments”.

The rage and vitriol of those who have attacked me for expressing my perspective is sadly, indicative of the character of a culture that has crept into our churches, Christian schools and colleges.  This generation has learned from the secular culture a pattern of disagreement that has the nature of a feeding frenzy in the midst of piranhas—it attacks, scorns, shames and will silence us if we continue to court their favor.

My experience should be a revelation for any pastor, administrator, professor, church or institution that believes it can court and appease a spirit that demands grace and liberty, but is intolerant of any expression contrary to its opinions.

With the Heart of a Shepherd,

Pastor Travis D. Smith
