Christ on the CrossDear Hillsdale family and friends,

For nearly 35 years I have made it an annual tradition on “Good Friday” to listen to a sermon titled, “Sitting Down They Watched Him There”.  The late Dr. Bob Jones, Jr. was one of the most eloquent preachers of the 20th century whose use of the English language was as picturesque as the sacred art work of some of the great Renaissance painters.  I first heard this sermon when I was a student at Bob Jones University in the 1970’s.  Dr. Jones’ sermon on the Cross moved me with both conviction and awe as I considered it was my sin that moved God the Father to sacrifice His Son.

Sitting in my office this Friday, March 25, 2016, my heart was moved once again by the great sacrifice of my Savior and the extraordinary thought, “God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

I hope you will set aside 30 minutes of your time today and listen to, “Sitting Down They Watched Him There”.

With the heart of a shepherd,

Pastor Travis D. Smith
