In recent years, I have mourned and decried the failings of Bible fundamental churches, colleges, universities, seminaries and institutions (camps, mission boards). With a generational change in leadership that was inevitable, new leaders have introduced a philosophy of progressive pragmatism. The effect has been an erosion of Scriptural convictions, that has proven catastrophic. Bible colleges have closed, and our churches are failing. (At the conclusion of this article are links to prior articles on this author’s observations.)
Sacrificing guiding principles and spiritual disciplines that once defined them, fundamental churches and institutions have betrayed their legacy. Rather than equipping the next generation with the training and disciplines necessary for the “work of the ministry,” the policies and values of faculties and administrators have eroded the passion and conviction of our youth. Failing to “keep the chapel platform hot,” and reproving, rebuking, and exhorting “with all longsuffering and doctrine” (2 Timothy 4:2), our churches and institutions now “cater to carnality” and accommodate spiritual immaturity.
What has happened? Our Bible fundamental institutions weathered the societal revolution of the 1960’s, and the technological revolution of the 1990’s and early 21st century. Why have they now embraced a “worldly-wise” philosophy of ministry? Who and what are the influencers?
I once thought the problem was spiritual naivety, and a tragic lack of discernment. I have come to believe there are enemies within our fundamental churches, and institutions. There are “wolves in sheep clothing” in the midst, and their purpose is not to build, but to divide and destroy us.
I am writing to invite you to purchase and view, “Enemies Within the Church,” a documentary film that addresses and exposes the enemies of the 21st century church. You may be shocked, as I was, to hear some of the biggest, and most applauded names in the American church-scene are compromised. “Enemies Within the Church will leave many believers facing the dilemma of either leaving, or continuing to support men and institutions that are hopelessly corrupt.
* With the permission of director, Judd Saul, I am sharing the first part of “Enemies Within the Church with my Wednesday evening Bible study (6:30pm). Honoring the copyright, we will not be broadcasting the documentary to our internet audience.
