A Distinctive Invitation and Exhortation from Pastor Smith

Dear Hillsdale family and friends,

I look forward to being back with you this Wednesday evening after being laid aside for the last week with a virus. I especially hated missing the first Sunday of the New Year!

What well-meaning New Year’s resolutions did you make in December, and now, only ten days into the New Year, find you have broken?

Many set spiritual resolutions for 2024. Among your goals was most likely reading your Bible daily, perhaps following this pastor’s daily Heart of A Shepherd devotions or YouTube video posts. I am sure faithfulness to church services and Bible studies was at the top of your aspirations for the New Year.

Wednesday Bible Study Classes

I am writing to extend a special invitation to this Wednesday night’s Bible studies and activities. Each Wednesday, dinner is served from 5:00-5:45 pm ($4.00 each). Children’s Master Clubs and Teen Ministry activities begin at 6:00 pm.

Travis and Tanya Henry have a class for parents of children that covers everything from marriage to child training. Also, a Ladies’ Bible study class begins at 6:15 pm (Dr. Melissa Cancel is the current teacher).

Every Wednesday, I teach men and ladies in Cox Hall as I continue my Bible study of the Scriptures titled “Logos: A Journey of Faith, Hope, and Love.” Tonight’s lesson is titled “King David: His Last Words and Mighty Men” (2 Samuel 23). (This class begins at 6:00 pm with Praise and Prayer. The Bible study begins at 6:30 pm.)

An Invitation to this Sunday, January 14, 2024

Finally, if you are not enrolled in one of Hillsdale’s Sunday morning Bible studies, I invite you to start attending this Sunday! I plan to conclude my study of the Life of David this Sunday. My Auditorium Class (9:15 am) will consider “King David: His Last Works” (2 Samuel 24). In the 10:30 am worship service, my series will conclude with “David’s Final Crisis and Death” (1 Kings 1-2).

With the heart of a shepherd,

Travis D. Smith

Senior Pastor
